SUPPORTING ENDANGERED WILDLIFE

The team were gearing up to launch their Special Species Project, a 12-month initiative aimed at helping more people recognise, understand and care about the native species that call the Waitākere Ranges home.

As part of this, each month, the campaign would spotlight a different species and share practical information on the vital role it plays in our ecosystem.

From bland into brilliant

The goal was to turn complex conservation topics, which can sometimes feel bland and boring, into content that’s fun, fascinating and most importantly – memorable.

“We engaged Hannah to bring creativity and fresh perspective to our communications – someone who could connect with an audience by making complex or dry information engaging and relatable.”

A LIBRARY OF QUALITY CONSERVATION CONTENT

Working collaboratively with the team, I researched and wrote a range of species factsheets in an accessible and playful tone, as well as media releases, carefully crafted to amplify important conservation messages.

This resulted in…

12x earned media placements

All media releases picked up by local media, published largely as supplied, including several front-page features

12x species factsheets

With 5,000+ downloads across a 12-month native species campaign

Council-backed classroom resource

Selected for inclusion in Auckland Council’s Sustainable Schools programme

“The storytelling, media releases and fact sheets  have become a cornerstone of our campaign, helping people see and feel why protecting our native species matters.”

RAISING AWARENESS + INSPIRING ACTION

The result is an engaging, audience-friendly series of content pieces that supported Pest Free Waitākere Ranges’ wider mission by making their messaging more engaging, more accessible and easier to share with the community.

It also showed how looking at storytelling through a strategic lens can help advocacy gain traction more effectively, especially with a subject matter that can sometimes be technical and tricky to relate to a broad audience.
